Hog Wild: A Video Tribute To The A-10 Warthog And Its Gatling Gun

by Blue Falcon · 2 comments

The A-10 Warthog is a welcome sight for U.S. and Coalition troops over the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. Very few weapon systems drive as much fear into the hearts of the enemy as does the Gatling gun of the A-10. Here are our top ten clips of the venerable A-10 doing what it does.

To get started, let’s look at the gun by itself.  This clip displays the business-end of the Warthog, the 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gatling gun. Nothing says enemy troop suppression like the sound of “brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.”

Best of the “Warthog Snarl”. Turn up your speakers!

It is hard to tell whether the Taliban “hideout” was ever built to code, but a huge dose of 30 mm around the :30 mark certainly didn’t help its structural integrity.

One of the telltale signs of an A-10 attack is the Doppler-effect that results in the “brrrrrrrrrr” of the Warthog’s 30 mm cannon being heard a few seconds after its rounds impact. The soldiers in this clip are tickled by the phenomenon and maybe a little “danger close“.

Troops in a lonely valley in Afghanistan can call in the ultimate rock-buster in the A-10.

And on the lighter side, A-10 pilots and crew are definitely a different breed:

Wait until DARPA gets a hold of that. Chaffe!!!

Hard to tell if those tactics were learned at Red Flag.

That snarl NEVER gets old. It was a wonderful time in the Air Force to have that much fire power (among other airframes) at our finger tips in support of the Army (all 1C4’s, formerly 275’s feel that way).
